America's Modern-Day Civil War

by Kirk Bennett

Since 1973 the United States of America has been engaged in a very lopsided Civil War. Americans have been taking the lives of Americans under the banner of legalized abortions and the result is that we have killed more of our own than all the casualties of every war America has ever fought as well as those who died from every nation in World War I and II combined!!

From the time that abortion was legalized in this country until now, over 47,000,000 unborn and partially-born babies have lost their lives. This amounts to one baby losing their life every 20 seconds around the clock for the last 33 years. Hands-down, abortion is the greatest killer of all time, worse than AIDS or the Black Death or malnutrition or even war.

These are more than just numbers or statistics they’re babies! Like John the Baptist or Jeremiah, they can be filled with the Holy Spirit from their mothers womb; they had an identity, a destiny and a purpose from God which was brutally cut short. The first time I stood in front of the Supreme Court with Life Tape on my mouth I prayed to God, What should I do? He answered immediately, “Start counting babies!”

For the next 40 minutes I wept as I tried to count the babies who were being aborted while I was praying. At that very moment, across America babies with fully developed nervous systems were being slowly killed during the thirty minutes it usually takes to perform an abortion.

Its easier to look the other way, but we must face the fact that abortion is the sin of the church. In one study, 62% of abortive women said they were Evangelical Christians! As I’ve prayed at abortion clinics, the countless Christian bumper stickers on cars in the parking lot affirm this statistic.

Abortion is the shame of women, but the sin of men. Where are the fathers of these children? They’re usually the ones paying for it or coercing the mother to dispose of their child. Most of the doctors who perform abortions are men. Most of the legislators who pass abortion laws are men Ķand most of the judges who’ve ruled in favor of this issue are men.

As Malachi 4:6 tells us, if the hearts of the fathers do not turn to the children, God will strike the land with a curse. Until the church faces the reality of what we’re doing to our children and repents, America teeters on the edge of divine judgment. Our only hope is to plead the blood of Jesus which speaks a better word than the blood of multitudes of innocents killed. (Heb. 12:24)
